Willem van Rubroeck, which has a total installed diesel power of 41,346 kW, the brand-new Cutter Suction Dredger from the fleet of Jan De Nul Group has ended her maiden mission in Mauritania, the country in the Atlantic coast of Africa bridging West Africa and North Africa successfully. Jan De Nul was assigned with the task of deepening the access channel, the port basin and the new berth alongside the new ARISE port terminal in the capital Nouakchott.
The new port terminal in the harbour of Nouakchott developed by ARISE was officially inaugurated on Tuesday. It is remarkable to note that the dredger has operated in large swells in open-sea conditions near the existing seaport infrastructure in shallow waters. Needless to be mentioned that the seabed was hard and to be dredged was harder. A distinctively class achievement worth mention for Willem van Rubroeck!
The hard work of Cutter Suction Dredger Willem van Rubroeck and Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger James Cook has paid off. The port of Nouakchott will now offer Mauritania its largest port terminal, which will undoubtedly lead to a positive boost for Mauritanian economy.
